In this week’s episode of the “First Opinion Podcast,” psychiatrist Stephen Tourjee shares his experience contracting Covid-19 months after he was vaccinated and thought he was safe from the disease. Infectious disease expert Céline Gounder provides context on just how worried people should — or shouldn’t — be about “breakthrough infections” like these.

“I thought that I was protected. I knew that breakthrough infections could occur, but I didn’t think that it would happen to me,” Tourjee said.

The conversation stems from Tourjee’s First Opinion essay, “Catching Covid-19 after being vaccinated isn’t a myth. It happened to me.”
